The info in that particular URL does not say that he was ever a scientologist. (Do have another URL for that item?)

However, I have always been curious as to why Jimmy Page later wrote music that seemed to be rock'n'roll influenced by middle-eastern patterns.

I have always wondered where/who that Jimmy Page got his middle eastern music influence for some songs in the later Led Zeppelin albums.

Ah, that's not the case. Hossam played with them long after the Led Zep era. They hired him in to do the whole Egyptian Orchestra thing for the No Quarter album and shows in '94.
You can see him here are about 2:30 playing his Tabla on Kashmir..

Shame he was involved with the cult. Looks like he made some good music anyway, and must have had fun playing with all those other good performers. I had never heard of him before, I might just listen to some more.
I suppose he was involved in CC London?
