1. Be able to experience anything.
2. Cause only those things which others are able to experience easily.

Ok, there are the "stated" two rules for happy living.

Anyone want to take a stab as to what the actual two rules are??

Alright, I will try it.

Two Rules for Happy regging

1. Be able to take all of someone's money.
2. Take only the money that would have been wasted.

1. Be able to experience anything including, pushy recruiters, pushy registrars, and anything else that the mind control cult of Scientology may throw at you such as poverty, lack of personal freedom, and the insanity of working in an org.

By just following only first rule one can stay happy and alive in Scientology. Just be willing to experience it all! I don't know if this is what Hubbard had in mind but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case.

I worked at a Mission in the late '70s- early '80s.
The Acting E.D. (OT III, Cl. VI) used to quip
"Don't forget the third rule for happy living: If you can't confront it, deep-six it!" :D

Two rules examples of Ron:

1.
I once thought that Ron was causative enough to put on his own socks, carry his own ashtray, eat powdered milk without spitting it out and use regular laundry detergent with a single rinse like the rest of us. I once thought that Ron was the epitome of sanity.

Has HelluvaHoax mentioned lately how insane Ron was?

2. And a real good friend - a true friend.

And a real good spouse - a true spouse.

And a real good parent - a true parent.

And a real good business partner - a true business partner.

And a real good citizen - a true citizen.

And a real good spiritual guru - a true spiritual guru.

And a real good group member - a true group member.

The many, myriad and varied ways that L. Ron contributed to and enhanced the survival of all those close to him truly humbles a person when you see the magnitude of his impact on all those close to him.

What a guy!

Ron the Humanitarian and Philanthropic Philosopher and all that.

Makes a tear well up in my eye.

We were just talking tonight, and the better half asked "would those two things really make you happy?"
I think in this case "Happy" means...... much less bullshit. But it doesn't flow as well to say it like that, lol

.

Interesting thread!

"THE TWO RULES FOR HAPPY LIVING"
RULE #1: The cult's guru makes all the rules and therefore they can break any rules and happily take all your shit.

RULE #2: The cult's marks are required to mock up happiness, despite how the ruler rules--in order to glowingly showcase how the guru is total cause over life and everyone is winning.

I went looking at the original ESMB and saw that @guanoloco had started a thread on the old board.

Anyone here have the data when this was first published? What was the context?

I haven't drilled down in the library that I still possess. Maybe it rains this weekend, then I might do a little research.

This is a sweet topic. Let's keep it going.

Hu666ard was the complete opposite of these rules.

For instance, Operation Snow White and Mary Sue going to prison.

So he set Mary Sue and the Guardians Office to clean not Scientology's files but Ron's files. They're tasked to clear his name.

He can't experience prison so he absconds with whatever, hides on a ranch and writes sodomite porn while she gets busted and goes to prison.

Now, he created that experience for her.

That's Ron being unable to experience anything in prison....while he causes only those things which others are able to experience easily, such as Mary Sue's prison term.

Controversial
My two rules for happy living:

1. Don't fuck with me.

2. If you don't fuck with me I won't fuck with you.

It goes beyond two and gets into the finer nuances but that's the foundational rules.

However if it's a very attractive female then number one may be ignored. Vice versa for females who adopt these rules and don't have gender confusion.
