ESMB Archive & Web Site

Ex Scientologist Message Board Redux is the living extension of the Ex Scientologist Message Board Archive Ex Scientologist Message Board and the Ex Scientologist Message Board Web Site http://exscn.net/

The ESMB Archive and Web Site contain twelve years of ideas, analysis, experience, opinion, and humor.

The image below is from the cover of a counter culture comix of the early 1970s depicting the scene in San Francisco during the Summer of Love in 1967, when Jesus returned to Earth only to find himself talked into joining staff at the San Francisco Scientology "Org."

Christ returned & joined staff | Ex Scientologist Message Board

The ESMB Archive is usually much calmer than that, but still interesting and informative.

The Archive can be searched most easily using Google with exscn.net preceding any search term.

A while back Emma mentioned that she was refurbishing the ESMB web site: Ex Scientologist, and tidying up the ESMB archive: Ex Scientologist Message Board .

Does anyone else think that both of these links, more prominently displayed, would have a stimulating effect on ESMB Redux?
Well, I just checked. There were 94 guests (lurkers) looking at esmb and only 4 on esmbr, so they're obviously not transferring over.

Not yet, but they will.

To clarify, at some point, new people will be finding ESMB Redux, never having seen the ESMB archive and, also, not being aware of the ESMB Web Site.

Ar one time the ESMB Web Site was prominently displayed atop the original ESMB.

If it were possible to prominently display, essentially the essence of opening post of this thread, atop the front page (in what is now a large empty space) of ESMB Redux, complete with simple instructions for by-passing the inferior search function of the ESMB archive, that would allow new people easy access to a vast amount of material.

That, in turn, would be a source of stimulation that would help produce new threads and posts on ESMB Redux.

The whole idea is to use what's available to stimulate maximum participation.

Yes, Veda ... I just needed to whizz over to the old board to find a thread for someone and I had to put effort into even locating the old board because it no longer shows up when you google ESMB (certainly not in the first 5 or 6 pages anyway) and I hadn't bookmarked it (I have now).

I ended up finding it by using the link that you posted above (thankyou).

@PirateAndBum ... would it be possible to put a banner up on this board that clearly directs people to the old board please?

:)

I have wondered if there isn't some reluctance to join redux among people who remember DM taking over the cult Awareness Network and have concerns they've done similarly here. Who does own this site by the way?

You and I chose to be anonymous here. So did the board owner. Maybe we fear the church, maybe we are wary of putting personal information online in general, or maybe one of us is a church agent here to sow discord amongst the wicked.

And yes, sites can be sold or subverted. That’s always true online. Your Alexa or video doorbell records may one day be pored over by the church, your ex-boyfriend or the Chinese government.

But I like the way this board is being run.

1. There is regularly stuff to read and think about. The posters I liked reading on the old board seem to be here.

2. I thought the recent thread on Diana and the Hubbard family really cleared up some mysteries about them, particularly the one I’d had about why Diana might still be hanging on.

3. The board owner here disagreed with me on a post I’d commented on. He thought I’d misread something, and I replied back with my reasoning. And that was the end of it. Civilized.

Moderation is tricky in a group that is obviously a major church target. You can be too strict, which leads to hurt feelings and people leaving and not enough negative stuff to stimulate debate. Or too lax in which case you end up with a right old mess.

ESMB2 seems fine to me.

That's the illumination I was hoping for. Once you got me thinking that the board owner would have cause to remain anonymous, in fact more cause than I, I think that answered it for me anyways. Hopefully the board becomes as vigorous as its predecessor once was. On the other board Emma was the anchor so it is a little different having lost that anchor. Yes, I like that the moderation doesn't jump in unnecessarily but rather lets the posters resolve whatever issue among themselves.

Times have changed and many of us have possibly discussed everything (and more!) that we ever wanted or needed to discuss in regards to the cult on the old board which was active right until the end and lasted around 12 years with perhaps the first 7 or 8 being the liveliest (and believe me when I tell you they were lively!).

Hopefully a lot of new members will join ESMB redux and they will add a dimension to this board that the old one certainly had when we were all newly out, but just in case they don't I'm hoping there will be a prominent banner (or whatever works best) here clearly directing people to the old board so they too can enjoy the laughter and rigorous thrashing we gave the cult. Just being a part of it all really helped a lot of people free themselves from the cultic glue and I would like anyone in the process of de-culting to have it available to them fully.

It seems to me that this board is a relaxed version of the old one where friends come to chat and I love it but anyone newly out may need and want the volume turned up on the various subjects related to scientology, miscavige, hubbard and the cult in general ... and they will find that and more over at the old board and could then bring anything they want to discuss in the present over here.

Yes, I wish I had stayed active on the old board. I guess it rubbed me the wrong way that the very people I looked forward to interacting with most kept getting banned. It felt too structured with self anointed pecking orders and cliques. Just like we were all indoctrinated into when we got in. Like being asked "how high up are you on the grade chart"? on a regular basis as though that would always be the lens through how you were seen. I wish I could remember the names of the posters over the years, some guy with a fly avatar was particularly good. Smilla was great! At least we still have the master himself in Hoaxy, no one will ever cut to the quick and see what's what while then having such an illuminating way of telling it...

If anyone is the high-paranoid type . . . .

Personally, I don't share any overly identifying IRL (in real life) information in my
posts or PMs.

Tip: If you want to share IRL information back and forth with another member, one
way to do it is "off the board" by sharing non-identifying emails addresses (spare or sock
puppet or non-identifying email accounts you have) and take the conversation offline
of ESMB2's PM system (over to hotmail, gmail, hushmail or whatever).

That way if OSA – or anybody – ever "hacks" the system or PM database, your personal
information won't get swept up. I don't know the sophistication of this board's security
monitoring systems. Security monitoring is really complicated and costs a lot.

No disrespect to ESMB2 moderators, but any network or message board can be hacked.
Look at what happened with Sony's email system in 2015 – or Chase Bank, the IRS,
Equifax breach, various federal government databases, the list goes on and on . . . and on.

Just be careful and don’t worry. In ten years, I’ve never had anything I’ve posted or PM’d
blow back on me. Have not heard of any blowback or problem with anyone.

PS: I’m the high-paranoid type, LOL. :coolwink:
